Registered Maine Guide Training – Recreation License

Obtaining a Maine Guide License allows one to lead day and overnight canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding on inland waters, backpacking, hiking, x-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ATV trips. This Guide Training is designed for experienced and aspiring outdoor professionals who would like to further develop their outdoor skills and leadership abilities. Students will work to develop the essential skills required for pursuing a Maine Guides License.

Course topics include map & compass use, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, Maine boating regulations, risk management, leadership, rescues and advanced strokes, and group safety.

Dates:

Spring:  Consecutive weekends model:  May 20th & 21st, 27th & 28th, 2017

Fall: Consecutive weekends model:   September 9th, 10th, 23rd, & 24th, 2017

Location: The Hidden Valley Nature Center, Jefferson, Maine

Price: $495

Notes: This course includes meals and a tent-site at the Hidden Valley Nature Center. Basic canoeing and wilderness camping skills are required to participate. Canoes and Stand-Up Paddle Boards will be supplied by Maine Sport Outfitters. There is an additional fee when applying to test at the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.

Registered Maine Guide Training – Sea Kayak License

Obtaining a Maine Sea Kayak Guide License allows one to lead day and overnight sea kayaking and stand-up paddle board trips on coastal waters. Our Sea Kayak Maine Guide Training is designed for experienced paddlers and aspiring outdoor leaders and educators who wish to further develop their technical paddling skills and leadership abilities. In addition, students will develop the essential skills required for pursuing a Maine Guides License.

Course topics include chart reading and navigation techniques, trip planning, tides and currents, wind and wave dynamics, group leadership, risk management, advanced rescues and strokes, island use and ethics, and coastal wildlife identification.

Spring:  Consecutive weekends model:  May 20th & 21st, 27th & 28th, 2017

Fall: Consecutive weekends model:  September 16th & 17th, 23rd, & 24th, 2017

Location: Maine Sport’s Gay Island Lodge, Friendship, Maine

Price: $495

Notes: This course includes meals and a bed or tent-site at the Gay Island Lodge. Sea Kayak and Stand-Up Paddle Boards will be supplied by Maine Sport Outfitters if needed. There is an additional fee when applying to test at the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
